evan47
I have the chance of buying a used Bacchus Craft Line (hand crafted in Japan). Has anyone any experience of these instruments? I think it is pre 2017 with active preamp. The guy is asking £600 for it. Is it worth it? Edited March 10, 2023 by evan47
mybass
These are well thought of basses and made in Japan is a bonus. The price is pretty good too so it’s almost a whats not to like. 1
Doctor J
I have a few older Japanese Bacchuseses, Bacchiii... whatever. They're as good as those classic designs get, in my experience. I haven't played these newer ones but at £600 I reckon you can try it and sell on easily enough without making a loss if it doesn't work for you.
TheGreek
When did the Japanese last make a bad bass?
Doctor J
I believe it was back in the late 60's 😅 @evan47 Another way to look at it is, you could get a small production run, hand made bass from a brand you're unfamiliar with, but who have a stellar reputation, for less than you could get a mass-produced Mexican unit-shifter with a familiar logo on the headstock. It's not an insignificant sum of money, for sure, but I would go for it, personally.
NikNik
I have the Indonesian model, not unlike the attached, and I really like it. Has the parallel pup pull-up pot.
fleabag
My word, who would have thought - another J clone. Mind you, they look more wonderful than anything Fender could make or has made. Probably play better too
TheGreek
That's the reason for my aversion to "real" Fenders. Market leaders who stood still (went backwards??) in the 80s and let everyone else catch up/ overtake them.
fleabag
Same here - never bought a bass with Fender on the headstock in my lifetime. That woody Bacchus of Nik's above though - that's real handsome
bubinga5
Total bargain. The woodline Indonesia models are around that price.
