Any ideas?

A friend of mine recently acquired an unbranded Strat with a sticker from Andy's in Denmark Street. 

 

Schaller tuners are the only other distinctive item. No serial number or date of manufacture but it is believed to be 1980s.

 

I know it doesn't give much to go on but does anybody have any ideas what it might be?

I only see a couple of close ups back of HS with the sticker can't see the full guitar. 

I remember Andys very well of course, curiosly I recall they used to sell quite decent unbranded strat copies in Rokas just across the road from Andys

 

OK see you've added more pics.. The ones I'm thinking of in Rokas  were generally sunburst, but there were lots of Fender copies around

With such poor quality and useless photos, all I can say is that it's been modified at some point and was originally a mid to late 70's or even very early 80's (this kind of checking is typical from this period) hard tail Fender Stratocaster, named so, because it has no tremolo, but a fixed bridge.

 

Robert Cray used to play one and even has a Fender signature model.

These are CTS pots and have a code on them that can be easily deciphered, just like the back of the pickups.

 

The switch looks like a CRL model, and if still original should be a 3 position model.

 

Furthermore, some photos of the heel of the neck might help too just like a photo of the body with the pickguard removed and a photo of the front of the headstock.

 

The Schaler tuners are a common upgrade on Strats as they align with the original lower holes.

The place that was Andy's Guitar Workshop is is now called Denmark Street Guitars, but has been Hank's Guitar Shop in between : https://www.denmarkstreetonline.co.uk/

 

That said, the more I look at it, the more it looks like a stolen guitar with all the distinctive signs erased...

 

It could also be a Schecter hardtail from the 80/90's as it has the smaller headstock, but most of them had gold hardware or a Fender from the same period, but then the hardtail bridge is a modern replacement.

Interesting that Andys is still a guitar shop, as I remember it, it was on 3 floors up rickety old stairs, with a tiny "showroom" on the ground floor, and he fiddled with the guitars down there too. 

Not been to Denmark St for a few years now, no doubt the guitar / music shops in Charing X Rd have all gone by now.

Apparently built by a fella called Graham Noden  who worked at Andy's in Denmark Street from 1972 - 1984, building custom instruments from high end parts for wealthy clients, prepared to pay for custom high end guitars. 

Graham is still building guitars from premises in West Drayton/ Uxbridge.
