To me, tort and/or pearloid scratchplates on basses are like sparkly jackets on comedians; tacky, dated and rather more "London Palladium" than "Carnegie Hall". Don't ask me why. :)

I think bright clean white would look good, and emphasise the off-whiteness of the body.
