Mike Bungo
Hi everyone. I've just acquired a pre owned TH500 and I'm just enquiring if anyone knows how the onboard fan operates When I switch the amp on the fan does not operate. I've not played it properly yet and it may come on after a period of time Does this appear to be the correct way it would run or would it come on when switched on and stay on? Thanks Mike
Bill Fitzmaurice
Download the manual. It may have a thermal switch.
snorkie635
Mike, the 500 fan will activate after the amp has been driven a bit. Light noodling will not make it activate'. Hope this is clear enough?

Protection Features The Tone Hammer 500 is equipped with several protection circuits designed to prevent any damage to the amplifier in cases where the limits of the normal operating range are breached. Protections include an over current, an over temperature, DC, and HF detectors. If any of these circuits are triggered, the amplifier will either limit its output power, or shut down. In case of a shut down the amplifier will rapidly try to restart, checking if the faulty condition is still present. In case of shut down, both Operate and Status lights will turn off. pineweasel
Mine comes on after 20 mins or so no matter how loud I am playing (or not) and never seems to turn off again. Contacted Aguilar and they said it was normal.
snorkie635
Sounds like some kind of thermal sensor has decided the amp is now at a temperature requiring fan-cooling to kick-in. It will stay 'on fan', until switched off and given time to cool again.
Chienmortbb
The TH500 has two fans. neither in ideal positions.
Dan Dare
My AG700 fans only cut in when the amp warms up a bit. It's thermally activated, as Bill points out. I should imagine Aguilar uses the same system on all its amps.
