hiram.k.hackenbacker Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 Excuse my ignorance, but is a wooden nut a thing? A wooden nut cut really badly I might add, or does that get replaced? Quote

To be fair (let's be fair - it allows a retention of the high ground) - it looks like there's a slot for a zero fret, so the nut slots would be deeper and the nut's job is purely and simply as a string guide. 1 Quote
spencer.b Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 For some reason this thread came to mind when I just saw a Shuker 5 string in the classifieds , £1100 for a gorgeous bass hand built by one of the UKs top luthiers , probably could pick it up within days !!! 6 Quote

EBS_freak Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Just watched the YT vid in the post above. Jeesh. 1 Quote
PinkMohawk Posted January 2 Posted January 2 I mean, for the money that you were looking to pay, you were only a little ways off of a Shuker, his cheapest builds start at £1700, and you'd be getting it from a builder with a solid rep as well. Well, suppose it'll be interesting to see what happens next. 3 Quote

Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted February 4 Posted February 4 I watched the YT video. I had no idea what was going on due to the lack of explanation — he could at least put some captions onscreen if he's afraid of his voice. So is that the finished logo? Are those acrylic shapes just screwed onto the headstock and it's job done? I though they were going to be inlaid flush or something else less amateur looking. He's certainly no Ted Woodford when it comes to showcasing his skills on video. 1 Quote

Not that I was in the market to start with, but it's quite an impressive piece of YT that can actually out you off buying a instrument. While he clearly has some skill - more than me for sure - the sense of this all being a bit of a garden shed hobby came across a bit too loud and clear to me in that video Quote

Burns-bass Posted Friday at 12:28 Posted Friday at 12:28 I reckon if I decided today to become a luthier and began my training, spent 4-5 years building basses and developing shapes and concepts, I’d still deliver a bass before Letts. 4 Quote

Letts blocked me a couple of years ago on Instagram, back when I was calling him out and he's never undone that, but my daughter got and sent me the photos. As everyone can see on the YouTube comments, he's already publicly admitted this instrument is supposed to be for me. He even liked the comment on his video where I asked for an update! Which makes the lack of communication quite odd, I would say. All these developments make for a very odd situation indeed, but one that I feel still warrants my updating of this post for prospective customers; Letts is trying to portray publicly that he's rectifying matters, but that only works if he actually DOES. Any progress since this, Eddie? Quote
