Go pro in the corner, silent-ish rehearsal with everything into the desk. Run a few takes of each track and pick the best one. The drummer has just finished giving it a bit of a polish and syncing the audio & video up. I think he's done a pretty good job: This was wonderful, superb playing and what a beautiful voice your singer has, excellent, good luck with the band John 😎 3 1 Quote
colleya Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Thanks John. She's a real find, I had to concentrate extra hard at the audition because I just wanted to listen to her singing! 2 Quote

Great feel, balance and groove. It's also nice to see a drummer play with dynamics and not trying to kill their kit. 🤣 I'm going through the same work process of getting a start up band together and although it's taken a lot of doing I'm pleased where we have got to. We're doing covers but have a "guideline" of not covering the same tracks everyone else does and it's been a breath of fresh air and well worth the work. Some of the tracks we do are : Say It Isn't So - Daryl Hall & John Oates, Free - Denice Williams, Never Too Much - Luther Vandross, Rock Steady - Aretha Franklin, When Will You Be Mine - Average White Band, Stop By Monies - Liquid Soul, Time Won't Wait - Jamiroquai etc Next rehearsal is tomorrow afternoon to go over some stuff ready for New Years Eve 👍 3 Quote
mikebass456 Posted Wednesday at 12:54 Posted Wednesday at 12:54 First rehearsal of the new year last night with the punk covers band. New rehearsal space to try out - fairly small, but warm and has a working toilet! Got a private gig coming up in February, so need to focus! 3 Quote

SuperSeagull Posted Wednesday at 18:05 Posted Wednesday at 18:05 (edited) First rehearsal of the New Year cancelled due to snow this evening. Edited Wednesday at 18:06 by SuperSeagull Quote
mikebass456 Posted Wednesday at 18:24 Posted Wednesday at 18:24 Ours is still on - roads slightly frosty here in Lincolnshire, but gritters already been out. First get together of the acoustic folk rock band to get ready for currently our first gig of the year in 15th March.....🤞 Quote
nilorius Posted Thursday at 08:07 Author Posted Thursday at 08:07 I got my first this year rehearsal yesterday. Guitar(vocal), bass(me) and drums. Pretty normal for first rehearsal. Quote
SumOne Posted Thursday at 08:12 Posted Thursday at 08:12 All very nearly deafened by the guit@r1$t mucking about with a cracking loose cable while turning the volume right up to 'check what's wrong' before ear piercing feedback. 1 Quote

mikebass456 Posted Thursday at 08:40 Posted Thursday at 08:40 Our first rehearsal of the year with the acoustic folk rock band went really well. A list of new songs for us to learn ahead of the St. Patrick's day gig in front of us, we managed to busk through at least half a dozen of the 'standards', as we have all played them individually in other bands at some point in the past. What made the evening even better was that the place we use to rehearse is a holiday cottage on a farm, which also has a tearoom on site. Any cake etc that is leftover from the day is put in the kitchen for us to help ourselves to, along with tea and coffee. (Ginger and coconut cake last night). Already looking forward to next Wednesday evening.......🤪 2 Quote
Rexel Matador Posted Thursday at 10:29 Posted Thursday at 10:29 First rehearsal of the new year last night. And first one since I announced that I'm leaving the band (have a baby now, just too knackered for it!). Something wasn't working on my pedal board due to it having been left in a cold car for a bit too long, so I ended up going direct into the amp with a single cable and found I actually preferred the sound. Drummer had been in over Xmas and tidied the rehearsal space, which was a lovely surprise. Not tripping over anything anymore. We sounded surprisingly good - dusted off a lot of long neglected songs for an upcoming gig. I've told them I'll stick around until a replacement is found, so if anyone is based in or around Liverpool and fancies joining a chilled but hardworking blues/rock covers trio, give me a shout! 4 Quote
super al Posted yesterday at 01:06 Posted yesterday at 01:06 Back rehearsing after the Christmas break and picking up where we left off. Last year ended with the new drummer bedding in nicely, we're rehearsing in his studio which is within walking distance 👍🏻 We went through our originals set plus the Christmas song we wrote back in November. Just before the last song there was a pause so I just started noodling on me bass to keep the fingers warm and one by one everyone joined in...low and behold we have our first song nugget of '25. I thought afterwards that I've been listening to the Word Up album (Cameo) recently and that must be where the sparse, staccato sound came from. With Jon rapping and singing on top it sounds a bit Chili Peppersish 🫣 early days, early days 😄 Those are some of my favourite rehearsal moments, when a song idea comes to life. I'm playing through a similar amp/cab set up to @mikebass456 in the pic back up the thread, sounds ace... I now have rig envy as it's the drummer's 3 Quote

I now have rig envy as it's the drummer's It's certainly a solid and compact rig - considering the relative small size of the cabs, I usually find I have to wind the bass control down in a lot of places we play. I have the first version of the Terror 500 head, with one of the second versions as a backup. For some reason I find the first version better - the upgrades on version two just seem to make it more 'polite' for want of a better word....... I don't think the cabs are produced anymore either, which is a shame as they really come into their own at 2am on a December morning loading back into the van down a fire escape.......... 2 Quote
Lozz196 Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Rehearsed last night with the classic rock band with no singer, some 6 weeks since the last rehearsal. Went really well. As usual I just plugged into their Ampeg 810 and Peavey MiniMEGA, can get a good old school rock sound out of this rig, perfect for the mainly 70s & 80s material we do. Quote

Our drummer's rig is the Orange Terror going through and Orange cab and a Hartke cab (can't remember the speaker sizes). Lovely sound, cuts through just enough. My rig is a TC bh550 going through a pair of Barefaced one10s... it'd be nice to get them side by side for a bass off! 1 Quote

Muzz Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago What are these 'rehearsals' you speak of? Not had one of those in a few years...pretty much after a project band who looooved to rehearse (and we sounded very good in rehearsals), but when it came to live gigs...not so much in either quantity or quality... Having said that, I've got one on Wednesday for a new band lineup, I'm not expecting too many more before we get out gigging. 2 Quote
vbance Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Really good practice tonight, our first go at a 40 min set for a support slot we have next month. Took my new zoom h2n to try get a half decent recording. Managed to get into the room with plenty of time to set up and checked the input signal was not clipping whilst we played at full volume, check. Throughout the evening I was constantly watching the mic lights to see if they we flickering, a warning the input was clipping, but no all ok....excellent. The practice went like a dream to be honest we even threw in a couple of numbers we'd never played together at the end, one being Polk Salad Annie...loved it.... our new drummer just lapped it up. We're a bit shouty screamy, punkish outfit and did it our way so I thought how lucky I was to grab that with the zoom.....Got home and plugged headphones into h2n....gotta say I was a tad disappointed. Note to self......remember to press RECORD. Quote
mikebass456 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I've done the same thing with my Hn4, except it was at a gig! 😭😭 When managing to avoid operator error though, they're a great piece of kit and I've not managed to get a bad recording yet, either at rehearsals or gigs 😉👍 Quote
