How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?

We rehearse as much as poss...

Had our 2nd rehearsal with our new drummer (Bob, ex of terminal Rage!). And while we're still a bit rough - some of our songs are quite complicated with annoying stops and rhythm changes - he's getting the hang and we'll hopefully soon be even tighter than we were before.

Luckily, we haven't got any gigs booked till  May so we can sort some of the previous annoyances out - like getting rid of old drummer's 4 beat fill he always stuck in a 2 beat space, despite hundreds of attempts by me to stamp that out!

Pete, We add songs. We learn them during sound checks or in dressing rooms. Then will keep playing them until the bugs are worked out. It's not the best way to learn songs, but like I said, I stay quiet .

If it works Daryl, then why not? Obviously you must all be experienced players who can play around with

things until you’ve reached how you want it to sound. And think of all that rehearsal time you’ve saved….😄

First rehearsal of the year with the blues band tonight - all seemed vaguely familiar!

Had the Orange rig along with the Mk2 Terror 500 head tonight - no pedalboard to save a bit of extra carrying! Have got ourselves the back room of the local pub for this year's rehearsals, so kind of spoiled!

Bass is my hybrid 70s Precision with a Jazz neck.......

Rehearsal for a gig in 2 weeks. Took my Maruszczyk custom Elwood L and just used the neck pickup (I normally use a Mustang or P bass in this band), added a bit of drive from the VTDI and it roared like a cross between a Ric and a P - glorious!

Rough one tonight. Rythym guitarist forgot. Singer was under the weather. We were all cold.

 

I just couldn't get any fluency in my playing, frankly I felt I was crap, my fingers were not obeying my brain.

 

We went through a fair bit of stuff some ok some not so ok.

 

Cold is not good for a rehearsal space.

After almost 60 years playing bass I can still have bad gigs where I couldn't get it together. Especially if I'm playing with a marginal dep drummer.

We were cold only when go'in out for smoking, inside our air conditioner did his job fine.

We're struggling with Hysteria.  I want to follow the drummer,  he's struggling to lock into the riff. He wants me to accent a pulse but I'm struggling. Even though it's down as straight sixteenth notes (mostly) I feel it swings a bit, especially the second bar of the main part.

 

I've managed to drop the odd extra note I was dropping in, but that only seems to gave made it worse as I think he was listening for the double notes to start some bars.

 

Doesn't help that the recorded verdion is just a wall of sound so I've been practicing to the Ultimate Guitar online player.

 

Left wondering is it me or the drummer?

I can't say whether any of this is accurate, or even helpful, but Nate is a bit good and I'd trust him over a drummer when it comes to bass lines -

Hmm mostly all three? He does admit he's struggling to play it full speed.

 

We're going to try slowing it down a bit until we are solid. It didn't help that the singer was moaning we were slow.

I took part in my first professional recording sessionthis morning! Due to recent band changes I ended up laying down bass guyitar, octave mandolin and piano accordion. Just to keep me on my toes, the song was in the key of D♭, OK on bass and mando but a pain in the proverbial on accordion. But it was a lot of fun being in a professional studio and seeing how things worked - very different to recording stuff at home with my Zoom recorder!

Really good practice last night. We're prepping for some recording next Wednesday and it all went well. We feel tight. I used the presets I made for each song on my GX-100 for the first time last night, rather than using it as a pedalboardl. A couple of tweaks were required, but it's a whole lot less tap dancing. One button to turn on 3 effects? Yes please! It might also help me remember the song names. I can barely remember any of them 😅

Well as usual a great rehearsal. Took along a Precision for the first time in ages and although it hasn’t given either my back or arthritic thumb any problems I’ve found that in a band scenario I now prefer my Mustangs, whereas at home it’s still my fave Precision that gets the vote. Great, fave bass at home, light easy to play bass for band, sorted. And for those who laughed, am now gonna watch Eastenders!
