northcountrybob
Yo! Off on tour end of this week and need to pick up some musical instrument insurance for those in my band that don't have it. I already have it... and will only be flying with my pedals. Mine is through the Musicians Union but it's a bit of a pain sorting the same cover through their broker for non-members. Any tips or recommendations?

Cat Burrito
MU members can join for a £1 at the moment, for the first six months.

But you're tied into membership for the full year once you've signed up, so it might be more cost-effective in the long run to get a separate policy. Dad3353
There are more benefits from MU membership than simply insurance cover. They become more apparent when there is a need, of course; it's a gamble as to whether any such need arises. Same as insurance cover, really. Granted, but if one is just after insurance cover then there are more cost-effective options out there.
Matt P
I had mine through Allianz, I never had to claim luckily but they were the first one I found that didn't mind that some of my basses didn't have serial numbers (custom builds) , they were always helpful on the phone and didn't put on the hard sell when I phoned to cancel the policy (everything is on the house insurance which is fine as I'm not gigging at the moment) when I get some gigs booked tean I'll go back to Allianz again. Roger Phillips
Seem to remember Allianz used to sponsor the readers' ads pages of the Guitar and Bass mag. when they used to do them. Stopped buying the monthlies when they ceased to do those pages. From the above post it might be worth giving them a try. Roger
northcountrybob
I gave Allianz a call and they were helpful but it's too last minute to get everything together. Anyway... don't know why babysitting everyone... For anyone wondering, they sent me a spreadsheet to list all the gear I want insured on. Seem pretty flexible and helpful. I should revisit when I have more time, or get the others to do it themselves.
zbd1960
All my instruments are with Allianz. I have three policies with them: one for cellos, one for saxes, one for basses and associated gear. I did have to claim on the cello one a few years ago when the cello fell over, which snapped the bridge, took the finger board off and did a lot of cosmetic damage. All sorted with luthier and no hassle.
