uk_lefty
I needed a new power supply and picked up what I thought was a bargain... Except it has three banks for 9v 100mA and three for 9v 500mA. On my other power supply almost all slots are for 9v 100mA. I'm checking my pedals, some clearly say 9v 100mA but others don't specify beyond 9v. Am I taking a risk plugging any pedal into 500mA if I'm not sure?

If I understand correctly a higher Ma wouldn't do any harm, I got a 1000ma power supply that can run multiple pedals, or just one... it was sold with, and as suitable, for a 300ma pedal
uk_lefty
Just now, Waddo Soqable said: If I understand correctly a higher Ma wouldn't do any harm, I got a 1000ma power supply that can run multiple pedals, or just one... it was sold with, and as suitable, for a 300ma pedal Ok so it's a minimum requirement rather than a maximum? Yes, again as I understand it, it would be dodgy to run a 300ma pedal on a 100ma supply ( it would overheat I think) but the other way round, ie a 300ma pedal on a 500ma power supply is absolutely fine..
Downunderwonder
The draw is the thing. As WS intimated, the supply has to be rated for the draw that is sucking on it. There are lists of power draws for pedals on the internet.

Your pedals will only take what it needs, so if it needs 30ma it will only draw that much, it could be plugged into a 1000ma supply wouldn’t matter.
fretmeister
Perfectly safe. If you buy any power hungry digital pedals just make sure they get powered from a 500mA output.
lidl e
Just pointing out something i didnt know but looked into. On power supplies with switchable voltage (ie 9/12/18) the mas goes down by a 1/2 or so each time you up the voltage.
Boodang
If your pedal doesn't specify the mA draw it will probably quote the wattage (it'll be mWatts). As Amps x Voltage = Watts then Watts divided by Voltage = Amps
