chrisplum
Hi - I have a Musicman Stingray Classic 4 which has the varnished neck and fretboard but I find this is not as playable as the unfinished necks - would I totally destroy the guitars value if I had the varnished stripped? What do you think?
Waddo Soqable
I'd say you'd certainly reduce it's resale value, but if it's a keeper and a practical player's instrument that you use.. then it's your call.
jezzaboy
It would effect the value if you intended to move it on in the future but if it`s the finish back of the neck that annoys you, take some fine emery paper to it? But if it`s the whole gloss finish that annoys you, as WS says above, it`s up to you. I wouldn`t but it`s not my bass.
Waddo Soqable
You could even try some very very fine grade wire wool on the back of the neck, it would take the shine off, and arguably you could buff it back to a high polish later if you were flogging it... Just a thought
TheGreek
That would have been my advice
Waddo Soqable
If you use wire wool btw, stick a load of masking tape over the PUs otherwise the inevitable tiny stray bits of steel wool will likely get stuck to the magnets
