BassBeast
Hello folks! I’ve been using a Bongo 4H for 2 years. Now seeking another 24 fret bass… BUT, something with a max of 9v power supply. The Bongo’s 18v is too hot for my needs. Help!! Doctor J
Warwick Streamer Spector NS/LX Godlyke Deity/Disciple Bacchus 24 Vigier Passion IV Ibanez SR Ibanez BTB
thodrik
While you can, I would recommend trying a Vigier Excess. Massive rock beast that sits somewhere between a Rickenbacker, active Jazz bass and Precision. As of the end of the year there will also be no new Vigier basses. Also, you can't go wrong with a Spector or a Warwick Streamer. I would still like a Warwick Thumb. I don't think Fender actually do any 24 fret four strings at the moment.

Vigier or Leduc are excellent different choices for a 24 frets bass. And there's still the other luthiers option.

3below
At the less exotic budget range (especially used examples on BC), Chowny SWB-1 short scale.
fretmeister
Marleaux Consat Custom Fender Urge 2 Sandberg Basic Sandberg Custom Sandberg Classic I am a huge fan of Sandberg, but if money was no object, I'd be getting a Marleaux again. I only sold mine when I couldn't cope with the (entirely normal) weight anymore following injury.

BassBeast
What I’d really like (that doesn’t exist) is a Stingray with 24 frets that does NOT have an 18v (2x9v) power supply to the amp. Too hot you see! So, a Bongo neck on a Stingray Body…
Rich
We have 49,525 members. Expect 49,525 different replies. Seriously though, have you considered a preamp swap? Something like a John East Uni-Pre** would do the trick. ** Other preamps are available. Edited April 26, 2023 by Rich
snorkie635
See if you can find an Overwater Progress III if within your budget. 9 volts, 24 frets, light-weight and tone to make one sob like a child. 🥲

If you like the instrument but just want to tame the output a little, this is good advice. Find a pre that doesn't require alteration to the instrument and that you can remove and replace with the original should you sell and you're good to go. The Bongo’s 18v is too hot for my needs. 2 x 9 V may be chosen for simpler electronics. Two sided power is very easy to execute. If you use only a single battery, you need to divide the 9 V to 2 x 4.5 V. The level of the output signal is dependent on the choices electronics designer has made. It can be lower than those hi-Z counterparts, i.e. those without batteries. By the way, Status has produced a preamp with 4 x 9 V batteries = 36 volt circuitry. I think it was made for Jonas Hellborg.

Lots of good suggestions on the thread but have you considered a custom build to get exactly what you want? I had my local luthier make me a 24 fret jazz recently, to say I couldn't be happier is an understatement and cost wise was way cheaper than a bongo.
Hellzero
Something like that, real Lane Poor pickups (1998) with "neck" pickup at the "sweet spot", Aguilar OBP-2 with active/passive switch and passive tone... A really rare true versatile masterpiece.
Boodang
From my local luthier. Less than a standard fender or bongo.
