Music Man Old Smoothie StingRay - 40th Anniversary £1750 - *SOLD*

****Relisted 16th June due to a payment issue from an overseas buyer.

£1750 - no trades please.

Gutted to sell this, but the slab body exacerbates nerve issues I have. I’ve been holding onto it for ages regardless as the tone is stunning, but it now feels like the right time to look into selling.

Unique StingRay, 10 pole pickup (not usual 8) and special Old Smoothie epoxy coated preamp work so well with the alder body, literally a smoother Ray tone yet still punchy. The video below tells the story of this 1976 prototype made for Sterling Ball and named by Leo Fender. It’s a 40th Anniversary Ltd Ed.

I’ve always had flats on it, but it will be sold with rounds on.

The back of the neck was glossy, I’ve rubbed off the top gloss which in my opinion now makes it much smoother and comfier to play.

The case has some marks and a small crack, all pictured for full disclosure

Ah, lovely basses these. I wish I hadn't parted with my one. GLWTS.

Think I’ll be saying just that pal.

Oh btw, may also trade for something purple… 😂

As much as I do love a Stingray, it would be a dagger in my heart to give up The Purple One for the privilege.

These are great basses and they don’t come up for sale that often. I hope I never have to move mine on GLWTS

Is it right that only the sunburst basses are the 40th Anniversary?

Yeah, the butterscotch and mint ones don’t have the 40th logo on the headstock rear… although the old page on the MM website always showed them with the 40th logo.

I didn’t think the bass would hang around for long.

You might just be right

Cheers Bruce, I was always hoping never to sell, but just too damn painful to play a slab body these days, gutted.

In relation to the post above. I’d take £1800 to ‘rip off the band aid quickly’ 😖

These are very unique and special basses so I feel that’s a fair price this year.

Sounds great thanks, if only… 😊

I might be able to ship the bass, please PM if if you want to explore that option.

Blimey. This takes me back to my first Stingray, picked up for £250 second hand in 1981.

How much does Old Smoothie weigh?

Those were the days eh? The one in my avatar cost me £550 used in 1996….

The weight is 9.42lbs / 4.27kg

Cheers
