IanA Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) As the title says… Do any of you have any suggestions for a nice light weight passive 5 string? Preferably jazz style but poss precision as well, maybe even something a little different… cost wise probably around £2k… ish, will probably sell my Sadowsky modern to fund it Edited April 30, 2023 by IanA Quote
TheGreek Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 I don't have any experience of them but they seemed to be well regarded. Have you tried any of the Ibanez range? Alternatively, with a £2K budget @Andyjr1515 could build you whatever you want (if he isn't already inundated). 1 Quote

I do like the look of some of the Ibanez stuff… maybe I should get down to guitar guitar and check some out… The SR5005 looks gorgeous but they seem to come in quite heavy… Quote

PaulThePlug Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 (edited) Ibby SR and pacify it... With a nice pair of 5 J's... I'd be inclined to leave the original cavities... Simple. Also recommend the Artec QTP for more passive tone action! Edited April 30, 2023 by PaulThePlug 1 Quote
TheGreek Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Not mine - I know nothing about this model other than it's semi hollow. I'm sure that those who know will know. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185526828639?hash=item2b3242be5f:g:1fwAAOSwrPZi4stc&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8PW7fpr9%2Br1pn82%2BgX%2Brio9yRBfhVvrhWXWL%2FXWtpeppkgMeRAGyQEQqOEgR23S63%2BjCXPDLfiZq89obobbq2uiO3iQeanZSYkL2BOk1URZuEzb5tpRhZj%2B6jUyvm3BzcGnUvQuHXR569JUeDderYBPN5krOlBYQvZHU%2BJ1%2B6lRldOIu%2FIzUrzEOVcD24C5qEAxcEglUHvQrsUSKFGHQgQ5kpMEZQ48h5t51y1OUvDKg514%2FsuVUADYMzmWvrIUCUfWa9c0cwpAlIO%2BJ6a3VpaU4VnC9yJPr1sbqqNO3c4erw9Bz3nEwu8Y8TwKmpahZOg%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR97torv6YQ 1 Quote

There is one of those on the sale section at the moment I think… I have been looking at @Owen L1000… The colour is the only thing that has me on the fence… Having said that it would likely look great on stage! snorkie635 Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 Gibson EB5. Really lightweight. Can do a good 'Precision' impression and it passive and 34" scale. Very ubderrated - I have three of them. 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 You can order a Sandberg TT5 as a passive Superlight. Or find a used one and make it passive. The active one I had was under 7lb. 1 Quote

Guest Posted April 30, 2023 Posted April 30, 2023 I’m very happy with my roasted pine American Pro II Jazz V. Light weight, balances nicely and sounds good. Worth investigating. Pictured here with my Xotic Jazz V, which is also light. Quote

I ordered my Superlight Lionel through Classic & Cool. But BD usually have the best stock. 1 Quote
IanA Posted May 1, 2023 Author Posted May 1, 2023 Will enquire with them thank you… am trying to avoid the other shop where possible. Quote

Every time they've just told me that I can rely on the returns process. Even when I've pointed out that I might need to go through every one they had in stock. GG have weighed stuff, and GAK have always been really helpful for that too. Peach weigh all their stuff and put the weights and serial numbers on the website. 2 Quote

It's like refusing to tell you what colour or how many strings a bass has. Quote
Grahambythesea Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 +1 for the Gibson EB5. As @snorkie635says does really good P/J as it has pull pots to change p/ups to single coil. Ultra lightweight, about 3.5kgs which is stunning for a fiver. Hugely underrated especially by Gibson Inc. 1 1 Quote
M@23 Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 I’d say Sandberg TT5 SL too. Mine was great. It was 6lb12oz and balanced and played superbly. Was sold again on here about a year ago I think! It was an absolute breeze to wear. 1 Quote
tauzero Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 Ibanez EHB1005, 1265, or 1505. Just switch the active/passive switch to passive. 2 Quote
E sharp Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 The Bass Gallery have these. I doubt you’ll find a better lightweight top notch P or J for this money 1 Quote
