I’ll probably regret this one, as the chances of finding another will be slim!

Up for sale is my beautiful 1998 Chris Larkin rare Blen EUB.

Chris' instruments are always very special, and the woodwork is simply perfect.

Chris had been building a very special EUB (Electric Upright Bass), named The Blen in honour to the great Irish bassist James Blennerhassett.

Chris took James' upright and copied the exact dimensions of the neck, fingerboard radius, etc., in order to come up with an EUB that would give the double bass player a true feeling of being playing a standard 3/4 acoustic.

The instrument utilities a smart body rest that mimics the exact position of a double bass body.

The adjustable bridge houses a transparent sounding Highlander pickup that turns through a 2 band EBS preamp. It is easy to dial in a woody tone that sounds remarkably close to the original instrument. The strings are Thiomastick Spirocore Weich (low tension).

This bass comes with a padded gig bag with separate pouch for the body rest.

construction: set neck
body timber: mahogany
body overlay: Irish walnut
neck: maple and walnut
fingerboard: ebony

Comes with original padded bag, and upright bass stand.

Collection preferred, but willing to ship/ courier at buyers expense and arrangement, have all the necessary packaging etc

Only trade I would consider is an ‘83 MM Sabre bass…

That is just gorgeous.

Thanks Joe, serious craftsmanship, and a rare EUB too!

I'd be buying ferry tickets this morning if I was in the market for an EUB, I don't think I've seen a nicer one.

That looks tremendous. Is your psychiatrist happy that you are selling it? 😁

😂 it’s definitely gonna be one that I’ll regret selling… but it’s just sitting in my music room all neglected, feeling sorry for itself…

I do that in the pub.

Good luck selling it. 👍

Lovely looking instrument.

What does the arco sound like?

How does it respond under the bow (ricochet and spiccato etc?).

I’m not an Arco player, so can’t offer any advice to your question, maybe if there’s another Larkin player on here, they maybe able to assist. Thanks
