I must admit I was surprised when I first saw him using the Thunderbird, but it sounds and looks great. His mid-70s heavily modded Jazz was in a Cov music shop a while back - the one he used in General Public. Pretty much all of the hardware had been replaced by brass versions (even the pickguard). It sounded great, was lovely to play, but needless to say it weighed a ton!

My Epi Blackbird (now with obligatory DR Black Beauties) has a great slap tone. No volume or tone controls, but I did do a lot of work on the pickup heights to balance out the string volume and tone. Oddly, it also does a convincing Dub Reggae tone if you play right up over the base of the neck. Even sounds like it should if you subject it to a bit of Entwistle "Typewriter" action. Weird.

Waddo Soqable
I'm quite fancying a try out of a T-bird now. .. not for "slap" I hasten to add (spits on floor and makes sign of cross)

Muzz
I've used my Fenderbird in the covers/function band (usually chosen in an eeeny-meeny-miney-mo way just as I'm setting off) for all sorts of stuff from Luther Vandross slappity to pop and rock...I had to hoick it up a notch on the strap for the slappity, tho...but that's more about where I had it slung, at Pete Way-regulation hip-height... 🙂

P-Belly Evans
I've got flats on my Thunderbird at the moment. Front pickup full, back pickup 2/3rds. Bass flat on the amp with a little tickle of high mids and treble......ooof, what a tone that is - right in the trousers.
Rayman
Yes I have flats on my Epiphone Embassy (Thunderbird pickups), and it sounds wicked. I’m undecided about what to put on the Thunderbird, once its new parts are fitted.
