Machines Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 (edited) Saw this pop up on Facebook and was reduced to an unmissable price with a 40 min drive involved (bonus - he had a cat to meet). I already have an RBX6JM which is fairly similar, but in practise they differ as TRB has higher pickup positions leading to a mellower sound, as well as wider spacing making it a little easier on the hand. I've experimented with rotating the pickups to move the coil also with various interesting results (turning bridge pickup on TRB is the sweetest 70s Jazz tone). The conundrum I now have is I have a set of EMG DC45s I found cheap, do they go in the JM or the TRB ?! n.b. the JM has a Delano Sonar 3 preamp installed. Edited May 10, 2023 by Machines Quote
Rayman Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 They’re both great as they are Matt. I had a Korean TRB1006 a while back, it was absolutely awesome as it was. I sold it because my dodgy shoulders were giving me jip. Big mistake letting it go. Quote
uncle psychosis Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 My TRB---which I sold and with hindsight should have hung onto---sounded absolutely tremendous stock. So put them in the other one, or neither. 1 Quote
Paulhauser Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 I’m a big fan of EMGs in my Spectors. I bought a Yamaha TRB6PII a few years back with EMG’s installed, a pair of 45TW or DC I cannot remember. I got the original pickups in the package as well. Truth to be told I didn’t like the setup much so I reverted back to the original set which was more to my liking. So based on this I would leave them as they are pickup-wise 1 Quote
TheGreek Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Why would you want to mess with a stock TRB? Leave 'em alone. 2 Quote

If it was my only bass i'd probably want it a bit less 'fusion' sounding but I have other loud and snarly instruments if I want. The same outcome is looking likely for the JM too. 1 Quote
Twincam Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I like those yamaha pickups. And I like the yamaha stock circuits, some people have said they were noisy, when boosted. But they sound fantastic! I'm not sure what the emgs would bring. But if a good deal try them in either bass. Would be cool if you made some isolated bass recordings before and after we could hear. If you go ahead. Quote
