Waddo Soqable Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Tho not ever particularly a Beatles fan myself.. I found this by accident and thought it might be of interest 4 5 Quote
jonno1981 Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Is the fuzziness here inherent of the original recording or is it part of the process to isolate the bass? Or the YouTube compression 🧐 Quote

Or the YouTube compression 🧐 Someone's used an AI software like Moises to isolate the bass. Whilst it does a good job in general, it doesn't work well for showing a single instrument soloed, where you can hear some bleed, noise gate and digital artefacts. It works way better for removing an instrument from a mix, I think. But these results are enough to help you pick up the lines. 3 Quote
Waddo Soqable Posted May 26, 2023 Author Posted May 26, 2023 Certainly sound good enough to me, for the purpose anyhow. I've had a bit of a scan thru them, interesting stuff I'll end up trying out some Beatles songs if I'm not careful.. 😁 Quote
ped Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 I must admit i've only recently started listening to the Beatles, and muddled my way through 'Don't Let Me Down' last night, lovely bassline to play Mind you I think I prefer this version: Quote
Chienmortbb Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 I will listen with interest. Macca has IMHO some of the best and blandest bass lines but the way the earlier stuff was recorded makes it hard to hear. Quote
jonno1981 Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Noticed quite a few points where Paul change settings or pickups mid song which I’ve never heard before. This is a real find I can see myself coming back to many times in the future. Quote

A good song sounds good in (almost) any genre/style. Quote
musicbassman Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 Just take a listen to the first couple of minutes of this. Pure punk ! 2 Quote
Baloney Balderdash Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 (edited) Yeah, not very well isolated, sounds like poo. But also the intonation on Paul's Höfner is painfully off. Great basslines though, and in the actual full mixes it does sound just fine. Edited May 28, 2023 by Baloney Balderdash Quote

That's the thing, if you listen to a lot of isolated bass tracks by "famous" names / bands they often sound a bit rubbish, it's just a raw signal as far as the engineer / producer is concerned, a bit like some very rough sketching on a canvas that becomes a painting, after much work and re touching. Always interesting to listen to this stuff tho I bet many vocal performances are cringe worthy before the application of the various magic sponges... Quote
