Dov65 Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Took delivery of this guitarbuild Jazz body yesterday with a maple flame top & swamp ash. Really undecided on a finish except I’ll be using Osmo oil but not very sure how to go about sealing the swamp ash or if I need too. I’m after a natural finish really. The body’s a 60’s Jazz hence the hole emitted for the bridge wire. 6 Quote
carlsim Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Honestly, I refinished an Xotic recently with Tru-Oil and its looks amazing. It's great stuff and is a combination of an oil and a varnish so dries nice and hard. The process is well documented on the build diary here: I can definitely recommend it if you are after a natural finish. Lovely bit of timber by the way! 3 Quote
PaulThePlug Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 (edited) @Andyjr1515 did a Tru-Oil Slurry on my Ibanez Reclamation... Feels so organic... Edited June 6, 2023 by PaulThePlug 1 Quote
Dov65 Posted June 6, 2023 Author Posted June 6, 2023 Cheers for the feedback gents I’ll have a read up on your projects later on. The body’s even got the router hump near the neck pocket which I’ve never heard of before but it seems that was the thing away back then. 1 Quote
Rumple Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Nice body, it will look stunning when finished 🙂 There are a lot of options so I'm finding it tricky to decide but on a Telecaster style guitar I'm in the process of putting together I'm going with Danish Oil wiped on which seems like it might be one of the simpler finishes to do and leaves a satin finish. Dov65 Posted June 11, 2023 Author Posted June 11, 2023 First coat of Osmo oil/wax today. I noticed I’ve got a mark just at the back of the rear pickup which I did try to remove but got no place….could be a glue mark. 7 Quote
TheGreek Posted June 11, 2023 Posted June 11, 2023 You'll be the only person ever to notice it....looking good. 1 Quote

Dov65 Posted June 14, 2023 Author Posted June 14, 2023 Well, being a tight Fifer I made two control plates up using 1.5 aluminium. One a standard bell plate & the other a Tele like version…I’ll probably go with the bell plate I think, dunno, not sure 🤔 3 Quote
Dov65 Posted June 14, 2023 Author Posted June 14, 2023 Body’s still a bit tacky after 3 coats of this oil stuff, should be fine tomorrow. Quote
Dov65 Posted June 15, 2023 Author Posted June 15, 2023 Body’s dry now this Osmo oil is good stuff…expensive tho 23 odd quid for a 750 tin. I’ve got plenty left so if anybody fancied some give me a shout….anyway here’s the control covers. Away to give body another coat….by the way it’s 1101 oil I used 6 Quote
Dov65 Posted June 15, 2023 Author Posted June 15, 2023 Cheers @Andyjr1515…..what plate would you go for the Bell or Tele like ? Quote
Si600 Posted June 15, 2023 Posted June 15, 2023 Tele. The bell plate is crying out for a scratchplate. 1 Quote

I may get some if I decide to strip a body of it's colour in the future. Good work!! 1 Quote

Hellzero Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 Tele plate for me too, but please don't put any scratchplate on that beautiful flamed maple. 2 Quote
carlsim Posted June 16, 2023 Posted June 16, 2023 it's a real shame the rout wasn't on the rear - that would have looked very special! Quote
