I have a hankering for a fretless Stingray, but having searched for several months they appear as rare as hens teeth. Compared to say Fender or other brands they really seem to release very low numbers to market, is it me or can anyone enlighten me as to why they seem so rare.

Cheers,

Steve.

Those who have them, keep them.

Not sure why it seems relatively few fretless MM’s are produced relative to the other name-brands.

Easy to pull frets out of a neck. Neck has to be VERY true to do fretless, but I have done it on two basses. Nippers and soldering iron to heat the frets and they pop right out. Plenty of videos on this.

I have considered picking up a fretted and having her defretted, but not brave enough to do it myself, if I can’t pick one up soonish I might start looking at reputable luthiers to do this for me.
