glassmoon Posted June 20, 2023 Posted June 20, 2023 (edited) Hi all, I'm looking for a gig bag for my Cort GB75JH - which is a very long bass. It's a hair under 122cm, from the top of the headstock to end of the strap button on the body. It just squeezes into my Levy bag... but not in a way I am too happy with. Not looking to spend loads of money here, but looking for something that is solid and secure and most of all, can accommodate a long bass. My thanks, as ever, in advance... jrixn1 Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 Sweetwater's website lists the internal length. So you could trawl through https://www.sweetwater.com/c587--Bass_Guitar_Gig_Bags. I once bought a Fender FB1225 gig bag but returned it because it was too long - I see that its sibling Fender FB610 is apparently 48.04" (1220mm). 1 Quote
Jonesy Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 How about a thunderbird gig bag? That'd probably be long enough, just not so sure on the rest of the shape. 1 Quote
glassmoon Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 I've been looking on the Thomann site and there are some nice options that won't break the bank, and are (internally), at least 124cm which leave a wee bit of wiggle room. My biggest issue, is that Cort don't respond the customer queries, and none of the Cort distributors in the UK seem to have any answer as to what gig bag my model bass could make use of. I have no idea if the Cort gig bags are decent or not - decent being a relative term of course - but for me, I want as much support and padding as my upgraded Levy bag (it was a double bag that I had converted to a single with additional bracing). I don't want to compromise by using just any bag - -nor do I want to spend hundreds... but it looks like I am going to have a tough time finding a viable solution. Thank you to @jrixn1 and @Jonesy Quote
glassmoon Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 Having a look at Protection Racket... [LINK] Anyone know if those are good? They are not inexpensive, but not criminally so Quote
Jonesy Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 The thomnan t'bird bag is 127cm, but you'll then likely have a gap where the wings would normally be. I have their fender shaped equivalent and it's served me well for 5+ years. Zips still work, handles aren't frayed and my bass is still in one piece. Having said that, I'd say it was just an ok gig bag and not exactly super padded. Does the job for the price though. https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_gigbag1_bass_heavy.htm I'd say the protection racket gear would be better. Our drummer swears by their stuff and he's put it through their paces. From what I've seen it's all good quality and would imagine their gig bags are just as good. Quote
glassmoon Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 Funny you say that, I emailed them today to find the real difference between the 7051 and the 7051 besides the faux sheepskin interior. They look like the real deal Quote
Supernaut Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Any hard case or gig bag that can accommodate 35" scale should do the job. Quote
glassmoon Posted June 23, 2023 Author Posted June 23, 2023 The problem is not the scale length, it's the overall size of the instrument. I have 2 35" scale length basses and the Cort is way bigger than the Ibanez (BTB). Were it only that easy... Quote
lemmywinks Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Just measured my Gator Pro Go Deluxe, looks like it can house 122cm and more with the lower cushion removed. Also measured my Gator Pro Go X (same as the Transit I think) which can just about do 122cm again with the lower cushion still in place. There's a removable bit of padding around the headstock area if you need more space. Quote
lemmywinks Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 Bass direct has the TGI lengths listed, assume they're the internal measurements: https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/TGI_Gig_bag.html The Extreme is £50 if you want something cheap but good. Quote
Jonesy Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 You have to love the bassdirect website. When you click on one of the images of the Pro Go (or Progo), it takes you to the Andertons website 😂 Quote
glassmoon Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 I did look at those. They look solid, especially the orange lined one.. But out of stock doesn't help hahahaha I'll take a look at the manufacturer site and confirm those inner dimensions. Ta Quote
lemmywinks Posted June 24, 2023 Posted June 24, 2023 TGI Extreme in stock for £45 here: https://kendallguitarshop.co.uk/products/tgi-extreme-bass-guitar-gig-bag Ibanez Powerpad are cheap and have an internal length of 1240mm, can get them in loads of colours: https://www.thomann.de/gb/ibanez_ibb541_br_powerpad_gigbag.htm Quote
glassmoon Posted June 24, 2023 Author Posted June 24, 2023 Thanks @lemmywinks. I've asked if the dimensions are internal or external. The Ibanez looks like a decent option too. Ta! Quote
glassmoon Posted December 28, 2023 Author Posted December 28, 2023 BTW, in the end, I got a TGI Extreme bag from GigGear in Harlow. Surprisingly good bag all round, and for £59, a win. Thanks again for the help everyone Quote

glassmoon Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 Yeah, loving how much bang for my buck it was. Quality and at a super price. Long may it last Quote
Richard R Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Annoyingly I deleted most of the photographs of the internal measurements from my Armourdillo review on here, when we needed to clean up space. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/395088-amourdillo-bass-defender-semi-rigid-casegigbag-review/?do=findComment&comment=3980589 I can find them again if you think it might do the job?
