Lfalex v1.1 Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 G With thanks to @silverfoxnik and @TheGreek, I present a Schroeder 21012L and a Markbass S450. Plenty of clean power all day long. If there's any dirt needed, it'll have to come from elsewhere! 4 Ohm cab liberates the whole 450 (A/B) Watts from the head. I can't use a second cab, but can't see me needing one! Not exactly new-school light, but hardly old-school heavy, either. Comfortably outperforms my old Trace stack, yet considerably smaller. It's one of the least "fatiguing" combinations I've heard; there's no rough edges to the sound. The tweeter is smooth, and the note definition is very good. Downsides? Not much. Ultimately the cabinet struggles to fully reproduce the fundamentals right down to low "B". It starts to roll off by about C#. That said, there are few cabinets (at all, let alone this size) that can. At least what output remains is audible, tight and tuneful right the way down. I don't think it did my Warwick Infinty SN4 justice. That bass positively bristles with energy through most devices, but it sounded a bit restrained. The Ibanez EDC715, however, sounds great. Maybe it's just the EQ.. It's amazing what can be had for a sensible sum of money in the SH marketplace... 2 Quote
silverfoxnik Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 Looks great Alex 👍☺️ I'm so pleased that Mick's old Markbass head found a new home too... Very true about the BC Marketplace - there's a lot of great gear available at very reasonable prices. 4 Quote
Lozz196 Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 I had one of those Schroeder cabs, really good, sound sat well in the mix and the dispersion was probably the best I`ve heard from any cab, aside from standing pretty much behind it the sound remained constant. Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 I'm inclined to agree. From my limited experience with the 21012L, it does seem that the dispersion is very even. I've dug around the 'net, but can't find much on the concept of or science behind the design. Quote
nekomatic Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 I think that head has been in the classifieds for as long as I have been on this site, delighted to see it’s finally found its home! 1 1 Quote
Lfalex v1.1 Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 There's also an HT503 for sale on the forum, too. I went for the simpler option ! Quote

I'm sure that at some point Alex will confirm that it's an amazing amp - bats much higher than the price tag I had on it...I took it in part exchange along with the matching cab but had no use for it - I couldn't believe that it didn't sell right away at the price on it. It has a new home now - hope it gets used and gives the enjoyment it was built to do. 2 1 Quote
Downunderwonder Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 A highpass filter will show you some B love. I very much doubt you are getting any fundamental of D. Quote

That has been on my shopping list. Maybe even with an LPF, too. Can't see any point trying to reproduce <30hz or >16khz. Might as well focus the power/headroom in the part of the audio band that the cab can get close to reproducing. Quote
Downunderwonder Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 The 60hz harmonic is where it's at for low B meat. Cut below 60hz and your world will change. Note that the quintessential Ampeg 810 always had a good low E when it never got close to 41hz reproduction. Quote
