Oh, that is a shame. An absolute session legend.

One of my very best basses is made up of bits from his spares drawer.

I hope he has taken his DFA pedal with him to that great big gig in the sky

That is beyond sad… the man had a big heart, and even more talent.

He offered me fretless lessons when I despaired of ever mastering it - wish I had taken up the offer.

EDIT I liked his British Rock Guitar book and have just found more (unpublished) writings on his Facebook page. Shame we won’t get any more.

17 Watts remains the best.

Was one of the bassists that appeared on so many great albums in my younger days and i even bought a fretless P bass because he used one.

A true bass legend sadly missed.

RIP

A true legend for me. I loved “Minder” theme tune.

Sad loss. R.I.P.

Yes, and for me. Also his Bass on the 'Bergerac Theme'.

R.I.P. Mo Foster. A UK session treasure.

One of the nicest people it's ever been my immense privilege to meet. We had a lovely chat and he very graciously agreed to let me 'interview' him via email... link below. He put up with all my dumb questions and was utterly gracious. Bass legend, wonderful raconteur and true gentleman.

Genius bass player. I love TV themes and incedental music so he's up there with Ron hazlehurst. The theme to Bergerac is outstanding tasteful playing. Just got into fretless and he's probably one of the reasons.

Very sad to hear this. A fabulous player. I encountered Mo at the Bass Gallery a few years ago and found him to be exactly as Rich has described in his post above. A modest and charming gentleman far more interested in talking about my bass playing than his own.
RIP Mo. It was an honour to meet you.

Wow that was a great read. Thanks for sharing.

I met him at one of the Bassist Bass Days in Guildford back in the early 2000s.  He gave wonderful talk about his career and went to lengths to explain how he managed to get the slap sound on the theme to Minder when he didn't know how to slap.  He very kindly signed my copy of 17-watts, which I still have.  It's a great read and there are very many similarities between his schoolboy bass playing and mine, even down to humping the family radiogram around to use as a bass amp.  I just loved the story about the orchestra, the conductor and the Sailor's Hornpipe. A great loss.  May his contribution to music be his epitaph. RIP Mo.

A huge loss. Had to post this as my favourite take-the-edge-off-all-stress track ever. His fretless just shines here (along with all players herein). Bliss from a legend 🙇🏼‍♂️

Oh my...that was him? Often wondered...Any idea what bass..kinda Wal-ish sounding. Another one gone from that brilliant early 80's scene.

From what he said in the interview, it's a Fender Jazz with its fingerboard replaced with 100+year old ebony from an old upright. Body stripped to plain wood, Badass bridge, EMG pickups.

Pretty sure he used Fenders most of his life. There's an interview posted on here  by @Rich few posts back where he talks about his basses and its really interesting to read. He used the bridge pick up to get that fretless tone. I noted he has a PJ bass with 2 knobs and 3 switches that i would love to know what they all did.
