When You don't need that full cab sound, what do You use - studio monitors, headphones... Which models You prefer? I like to use my Aguilar TH500 balanced out to Focusrite input and Roland studio headphones.

In retrospect,  using them for a while has taught me to deal with things like finger noise (on strings), muting,  and playing consistently that aren't even that obvious through a head/cab.

For gigs? I sometimes just use one cab instead of two. 
 

For home practice, either a Vox Amplug and my laptop, or my blackstar iD Beam little practice thingy.

At home, I either use a USB powered mixer that has the pc sound going through it (if practising songs) and headphones or, sometimes, an Ampeg Micro-CL stack - mainly bought for its comedic potential. Additionally,. I will often just play acoustically.

Yeah...acoustically is good. So, what bass do You prefer acoustically?

The headphones et al are only for learning / playing along with stuff I need to know.

At home, if I'm just playing or composing I won't even bother to plug in. That way I concentrate on the tune and not get side-tracked by the sound. Once I've ready to work on the sounds I plug in my Helix and either go through the speakers in my "studio" or headphones.

 

At rehearsal for one band I use my Helix into my RCF745, and for the other it's Helix into the rehearsal room PA.

 

Live it's Bass > Helix > PA.

If I'm learning or practicing songs at home I'll use headphones out of my Zoom B1-4 with the MP3 player plugged into the 'Aux In' socket.

Can't say I have a preference. I have 2 on stands and 1 on a wall hanger (and rotate them with my others) and just pick one of those up. They're all Precisions, of course.
