Bad GAS!

Having serious gas issues at the moment. 
 

Saw a guitar. I can easily talk myself into buying it. It’s not even suitable to what I’m playing musically…but could be…see what I mean. 
 

Anyone got any tips on reigning it in a bit?

Step away from the source of GAS - is it online? Move on to the next page and tell yourself you'll revisit it tomorrow. I find that a day or two usually lessens if not removes the temptation of GAS as common sense/logic kicks in. Talk it through with band mates who understand the situation (and who have experienced GAS themselves) and that you know will give you an honest opinion. Could you borrow a similar guitar to try and satisfy the GAS without the 'A'?

Buy it > Realise it's not appropriate for what you're currently doing > Let it sit in the F/S section at a loss for a few months before selling for far less than paid > Repeat

Wait for a few weeks before buying. If you still want it after that, there's a much better chance it'll turn out to be a good purchase. If your GAS has moved its focus elsewhere in the meantime, you'll have saved yourself some money.

Just buy it, try it, find you do or don't like it and decide the route forward from there, I have gassed for a Gretsch White Falcon since I saw Billy Duffy sporting his back in 1986, I still want one today, the pain doesn't go away.....that's it I'm off to buy a Falcon and the scratch that itch, I knew Basschat would help me see sense

Yeah, the GAS struggle is real. I played a multiscale 4 string Spector on my lunch break. That was nice... Good job i didn't succumb else I'd have a very angry wife about now 😅

Drop subtle hints to your loved ones and hope that they will buy it for your birthday or early Xmas present.

I’ve played for less than 30 minutes in over 2 years…….. still got bloody gas though 🤦🏻‍♂️

It's unbeatable but in the past I've found giving your existing gear a bit of TLC can help stave it off e.g. give your bass a good clean and polish, new strings, setup etc.
