TheGreek Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Check the modifications to the top horn. Seller did the same to a Squier Jazz. https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/harley-benton-6-string-bass/1462374888 3 2 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 Proof that its possible to modify an instrument to such an extent that its only fit for the bin 2 Quote
BreadBin Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 I showed this to my GF who knows very little about bass and she said "Oh!" 😟 Quote

Newfoundfreedom Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 I don't know why this is particularly surprising. It's been all over the news for months that the price of firewood is going up. 1 1 Quote

Good practice for someone wanting to test their luthier skills. You'll never get your money back on it though. 1 Quote

Doctor J Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 That might have been the guy who did it in the first place, Sick Steve. Quote
prowla Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 Given that it's a Hardly Bentone, would it have been worth that much in good condition? Quote
rwillett Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I can help you with that. Just send me the £100 and I'll guarantee you never own it. Thanks Rob 1 Quote
iamtheelvy Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Hey, that’s fairly close by! How… tempting…? Quote
itsmedunc Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 I’ve enlarged the pictures and I’m pretty sure that the horn hasn’t actually been cut off. Novices will probably never notice but to the trained eye it’s blatantly obvious. It’s actually had a damned good twaitting. 😂 Quote
tauzero Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 The horror of the body distracted me from the neck, so I hadn't noticed that it's also a defret of sorts. Quote
Tim2291 Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 Anyone else really interested to see what's beneath that metal plate? If you could get the Squier for like £15 then it would be useful for spare parts. As long as the wiring and pickups are in working condition that is... What ever the dude has taken though to first of all do these mods and secondly to think they are worth actual money, please keep it away from me as I don't want to be this delusional Quote
rwillett Posted August 11, 2023 Posted August 11, 2023 @Tim2291 I'd love to see whats underneath as well. I can't believe that somebody has cut a piece of metal, with what appears to be the dogs false teeth, and put in on a bass guitar and at an jaunty angle. Is it supposed to be steampunk? I was going to say if we all chipped £1 in each and offer whatever the total is, its as much fun as a lottery ticket, and we all get to know. I thought that for say £20 there might be £20 of salvagable parts, the tuners, the bridge, the pickups, they have to be worth £20. The rest of it is just firewood, and as people have already said, firewood is becoming more expensive. I can't use the wood as I have a biomass boiler, but lots of people have wood burners now and there must be £2-3 of wood there. I'm happy to chip the first £1 in. Rob Quote
