Shame. I might have went for this. (Ricky content)

Initially spotted this on the Tree of Gum, but it's also on evilbay.

On and off I get the urge to own a 4000 (pref neck through) but they're rarer than rocking horse shid! Spotted this one earlier on and got excited>  Then looked at the pix and my heart sank a bit. Player grade, probably sounds great, but not for me, not at that price.

4001 conversion

Maybe, from a historical perspective. But I think resto-modding basses which have been hacked up in the past is a noble cause. The result is probably just as, if not more playable than the original, it just loses its historic value which is basically nonsense anyway IMO.

At that price, I couldn't justify spending £xxx on a total refin (which, IMO, you'd have to do with that bass) plus source a set of wavy (waffleback) Grovers and a Ricky tailpiece, etc. I get it that some folk would go for that, but not I. Had that been all original and not so battle-scarred, I'd have snapped it up.

I'm sure it'll sell.

Shame about the replacement bridge and tuners.

I'd revert the 4000+1 mod; it looks like the pickup is in the wrong place anyway.

The pickguard cutout is a bit messy and it looks like that was the original 4000 pickguard hacked, so the search would be on for a replacement.

The genuine wear looks good to me, apart from the name carved.

A 4000 is on my nominal shopping list, but this one's asking price is at least double what I'd pay.
