Vintage Ibanez

Recommended Posts

My 1981 Ibanez RS840BK Fretless. The body was in a poor state so it has been refinished with relicing to match the neck and tuners which are all original. The truss rod cover was missing and the knobs were incorrect. A replica truss rod and correct knobs were obtained from the USA. The original pickups and bridge were also present. The electrics were completely bizarre and so had to be completely renewed. The result is a very nice vintage Ibanez which sounds marvellous.

I was once told that anything over 25 years old is vintage. I reckon that my Ibanez at 42 years old could fairly be described as vintage.

Well, that definitely makes me vintage then... not that I was fooling anyone anyway :D

Interesting - what year Ibanez would be considered as "vintage" ?

Roughly, pre - 90s, I'd say.

Although that might be because I'm not comfortable considering the 90s as a 'vintage' era just yet.
