Black Coffee Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 I’ve got a rather lush Ibanez BTB805ms bass and I’m wondering what sets of strings any of you may have used to restring one. I usually use Ernie Ball regular slinky strings on most of my basses and flats on my P bass. At the price of bass strings I don’t wanna have to try several sets. Scale is 37” at B string and 35” at G Thoughts and suggestions ? Quote
MichaelDean Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 I don't have one of those, but for that scale length I'd recommend Dingwall or Payson strings. Have a look on Bass Direct's website and filter for multiscale strings. https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/product-category/strings/filters/strings-scale-length/multiscale/ Quote

Let's you make a custom set of strings at whatever gauges and length you wish/need, genuinely great strings at that too might I add, and even at quite reasonable prices. https://newtonestrings.com/ 1 Quote
Machines Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Payson are not bad - but head to head I prefer Dingwalls every time. They seem to not have too much tension and that suits me. Quote
tauzero Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 You could consider using what Ibanez themselves supply it with. https://www.ibanez.com/usa/products/detail/btb805ms_1p_01.html strings D'Addario® NYXL45130 for 37" string gauge .045/.055/.080/.100MS/.130MS Quote
MichaelDean Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 @tauzero they're pretty pricy though! https://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings-c1/daddario-nyxl-nickel-plated-5-string-45-130-bass-guitar-strings-multi-scale-p15879 Quote
tauzero Posted August 21, 2023 Posted August 21, 2023 Yes, that's a bit of a drawback. Have you got a spare set of Ernie Balls that you could offer up to the MS and see if they'd fit? Quote
