Name that string - (In a Tom O'Connor styli )

I've recently acquired a very nice 5 string Keith Roscoe SKB plus...

The strings probably need replacing some point soon...I was convinced they are Sunbeams round core but have a barb like end which I've not seen on the various strings I've used before so maybe this makes them easier to pin point who makes em?

Any ideas? all brass ferrels no clues there..

🤔

Isn't the barb just a right angle bend thats been snipped right after the bend, something that would have been done when fitting the strings, and is recommended when fitting roundcores to prevent the core disappearing up inside the windings as unlike hex cores there are no corners for the windings to bite into.

They might be Warwick Black Labels.

However all the strings (B to G) I have currently fitted show the less tightly wound wraps seen in the first photo the set I'm about to fit have the winding tight to the end.

Literally could be anything... maybe just buy a set of Sunbeams and compare?

It’s not Sunbeams. I used to use them a lot. The wrap wire stays tight rather than the spaces in the pic.

I only know of Black Labels that are like that.

Cheers all - They feel like sunbeams but I’ve only just moved from 34/4 to a 35/5 scale bass

I've not seen the ends like that on any string I’ve used from the 5 or 6 brands I’ve used so a bit unusual hence the ask

ill maybe cut one when they’re finished with to see if the core is round but don’t think they are
