Richard R Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 Welcome aboard! There's more than one blues scale?? 😉 1 Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 (edited) When improvising I use: Root-fifth-b7-octave until I know if its major or minor. Pentatonic minor Mixylodian mode Major scale Minor scale Pentatonic major Chromatic But with blues you use loads of accidentals e.g. adding b5 to the major or blurring the lines between major and minor. Most of this just happens automatically, you have to listen wjere the guitar is heading. Should add the big choice with blues is do you play a riff based line in various positions or a walking line (or some sort of hybrid). Edited August 31, 2023 by Stub Mandrel 3 Quote

Richard R Posted August 31, 2023 Posted August 31, 2023 I am also confused. If the analysis was 7b or 4# it would be clear. I don't have time to play it this evening, but it does look fun - thanks. 👍 1 Quote
diskwave Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Im pretty sure it was in a Ron Carter book, so its probably more jazz than blues. I down loaded it from the internet years ago ..Just an idea. Quote
Bongo Posted September 1, 2023 Author Posted September 1, 2023 Thanks all of you for the tips and advise! ill be sure to use everything! Quote
gjones Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Just listen and play along to some BB King, Howling Wolf and John Lee Hooker and you'll be alright. Quote

msb Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 I’m not sure there’s any new scales , the old ones give you lots to work with. Blues is primitive music. But heavy on the feel. Most blues bass is keeping a groove together rather than playing a lot. 1 Quote
