Good God! Just when I thought the temptation was well and truly over.

Fortunately looks like only the Dakota Red version, otherwise I would have been a bit annoyed having picked up a blonde one elsewhere, at a higher price...  😂

Still really enjoying my SFG Jazz, but a bit of tinkering has definitely revealed where Squier cut the corners.

I've replaced the pickups and the wiring loom with some Dimarzios / Ki0gon gear and it was a really frustrating experience tbh. The holes for the control plate (and for the pickups themselves) seem to be positioned right on the edge of tolerance so I had a hell of a time getting everything lined up. And whilst I was in there I realised that the pickup cavities (particularly for the neck pickup) were a bit of a mess. I also suspect the pickup cavities are cut slightly too deep because I am probably going to need more foam to get the bridge pickup adjusted right.

Now, I'm not really complaining---the basic bass cost £259 for goodness sake---but its almost reassuring to see the difference between this and my more expensive basses.

Next up will be to replace the strings but I'm not quite sure what for yet.

I changed the pickguard on my red Precision expecting it to be a bit of a mess under there but it was actually really good. There was no insulation in the cavity which was making the bass hum, so I filled the cavity and the back of the new pickguard with copper tape and it's all silent again.

Does anyone know of a drop in replacement pickguard for the Precision basses?

Fancy changing the gold anodized guard for a more traditional version.

The decisions back in the day to use these now hallowed materials were almost certainly made using bottom line thinking rather than some tonal nirvana.

Native North American wood, using sensible production methods, honed to perfection over several years making Telecaster and Stratocaster guitars. Hardware is adequate, finish, automotive paint. Not rocket science but then again neither is Rocket Science,

For those you who haven’t seen my NBD thread (if not, why not? ), I’ve added a tort PG to my 40th anniversary P. For your consideration…

I'm thinking of selling my Dakota Red 40th Anniversary Vintage Precision as I haven't used it and won't have any need for it as I only play fretless. It's just sat at home being unused so I might as well sell it on to someone who can get some use out of it.

What do we think these are worth second hand? The only reference I can find is a couple of places with new ones that are up for £399.

That's ridiculous, surely they would never sell at that price.

There are a lot of prices on reverb that are just crazy, I guess they are there just in case someone is daft enough to pay it.

You can still buy them new less than £400, so there is no point paying more than that for a second hand one

Yep, exactly, theres a shop near me that has a new one up for £399 and online, another has one for £399. Youd be crazy to pay more for one second hand.

I would estimate a selling price around £200 - £250

Dont forget online may be offering free shipping too.

The first time I saw them on Thomann they were £300 when the Jazz was £400. Shortly after this the price jumped up to match the Jazz. I thought at that time that I had missed the boat for getting one cheap until they discounted all of them to £259
