Brian18242
Posted this on another thread, but the lowest setting on the just a nut still sits quite high. Does this look correct? I would assume it could be adjusted to sit flat but this is not the case
velvetkevorkian
No that doesn't look right to me -- on my fretless 5 the nut is flush with the bottom of the slot
Brian18242
Think I will just locate a standard nut that fits a sadowsky metroexpress bass. No idea why it sits so high?
velvetkevorkian
Depends if it's a problem with the nut itself or if the slot isn't cut correctly. Might just need a bit of sanding?
LeftyJ
There should be a second part underneath the nut, I think? The adjustment screws probably don't rest directly on plain maple, or they would eat their way into the neck wood. I would try removing the nut and see what's underneath, the bottom part should be recessed and mustn't sit flush with the bottom of the nut slot.
Brian18242
It's rather odd. When the top piece is inserted into the bottom slot and with the turning screws fully out, the nut sits quite high?
LeftyJ
Looks like the bottom half wasn't properly recessed. It appears there is some routing done, but it's not installed properly. The flat area should sit flush with the bottom of the nut slot (with the wood, that is). Is it glued in, or can you pull it out freely? Brian18242
Glued in. Think I will rip it out and just buy a standard nut. Well, one that will fit. Honestly, depending on your luck these sadowsky metroexpress basses are a nightmare
Brian18242
That's the but removed, now to find a standard nut that will fit

Could the bottom part of the stock nut sit lower if you clean up the rout a little?
Brian18242
Seems to be completely flat. Think a standard nut is a better option but struggling to find one that would fit a sadowsky jazz
