Curious Jazz/P?

Spotted this online this afternoon, its a bit of an oddity. Never seen a P that looks like a single pickup Jazz before.

 

The serial number comes back as a champion 30 amp?!? and thats on Fenders own lookup

My initial thought was it was dodgy, especially when the serial number didn't check out.

I’ve seen it a few times and think it’s an interesting looking bass. Overpriced though.

Thick board with what looks like a sub 9.5 radius makes me want to play it, just not for £800.

Up the road from me, the seller is a drummer with a permanent presence on Gumtree.

Yup, that's Howard the drummer from Red Herring.

 

Looks like he's having some sort of fire sale ... drums, instruments, high-end watches.
