The Dunlops are my favourite flats in the world. They used to be priced at about the same as Ti Flats, but after lockdown they went mad. I have no idea why. When the price went up I tried a bunch of others - ironically that costing me far more than just getting a set of Dunlops - but for me nothing else was close, particularly for P type basses. I've got EB Group iv flats on my J type. I've never got less than 5 years out of a set of Dunlop flats. I will say though that Strings Direct are the most expensive place for them by a long way. I got a set of short scale for £70 from Amazon - so that's £25 cheaper than Strings Direct. Quote

That website is horrific, any interest in these strings dissipated seconds after opening that link. 1 Quote
BigRedX Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 Surely, if your buying flats you'll never need to change them again in which case £100 is a bargain. Quote
Bass Culture Posted September 27, 2023 Author Posted September 27, 2023 Sorry all, those links weren't to the strings I was particularly looking at, it was more of a 'a oner - for strings?!'-type comment. I've actually ordered some off Newtone now. I appreciate flats tend to be more expensive than roundwounds traditionally anyway, but even so... Maybe I'm just out of touch! 🙄 Quote
fretmeister Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 £100 will barely get you a single good double bass string... A set of Pirastro Eudoxa are £700! Quote

Tell me about it, I'm going to be installing my set of Eudoxas this weekend, I'm more nervous about the install than I was about my driving test 2 Quote

Supernaut Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Went to the States recently and picked a set up for £40. Rip off UK. Quote
