Bought this from fellow BCer

Fender Am Original Jazz in CAR

I decided against the self build project for now and fell in love with this lovely thing and with la bellas on but switched out for TI flats and sanded down the gloss on the neck a tad and bingo - blimey what a great sounding bass this is. Articulate, warm yet punchy, bottom end full as a man who has seen a 3 for 1 in a pie shop and bought 6 pies for lunch!

the neck is quite chunky - not a baseball bat but something to get used to and it’s quite heavy - would lightweight tuners make that much difference? It’s alright on a strap - I love the neck - gonna stick with it

rehearsals tonight can’t wait 😛

Oh hell yes!  That's a thing of beauty.  One of the guitarists in my band has a CAR Telecaster and he's very keen to get me to buy a bass in the same colour - one like this would be ideal!

How did it play at rehearsal?

Just back and Mon dieu it was superb - going through ash down Evo 2 the old one with 8x10 - had to turn it down to quarter volume and a touch of gain. It’s a keeper!  GET ONE!

You might not save much percentage-wise on the overall weight of the bass, but due to the leverage effect of the tuners being right at the end of the neck, it will alter the balance and probably make the bass more comfortable to wear.

If you replace the original tuners (let's say 100g each) with some lighter ones (let's say 60g each), that would be 160g saved in total over the four tuners. You can trial the change in weight and balance before buying anything by removing one (100g) or two (200g) of the current tuners.  160g is of course about in the middle.  Remember these numbers are just an example - use the actual weight of the tuners concerned in your case.

I got an extra wide strap and it was fine for a 3.5 hour rehearsal- thought May get some gotoh lollipop ones one day

Hipshot USA Ultralights will help, but how much depends on what the current tuners weigh.

If they are old fashioned large plate tuners then you can save 1/3 lb, and at the end of the neck that’s a big difference. On a 5 string it can save 1/2lb!

USA Hipshots are lighter then the licensed ones, and they are reversible left and right for use in other basses if you ever sell.

Update my guitar tech pal sanded the nitro of the neck and oiled it for me and it’s now perfect 👌 I would’ve done it but I wanted it to be a proper job. This thing is alive

Well, from a pretty negative start (the fake roadworn) this has turned into a decent result! Congratulations!

Yes the bass gods stepped in and all fares well!
