Bit stuck here!

I've got a Markbass 151 cab, one of the speakon inputs is dead.

Also got Markbass amp that also appears to have a speakon issue.....

Does anyone know of someone in the area who can look at such things? I've always found luthiers easily, but I'm sitting on these two not knowing where to take them! ☹️

Any thoughts? 🤔

If you have damaged SpeakOn jacks, the first thing to check is that you are not using knock-off Chinese SpeakOn plugs. Some of these can damage the mating jacks, and if this is the cause, the repaired devices are at risk.

Hi - Apologies for reseurrecting an old thread. I've been searching for someone to repair my amp (I'm based in Kent), I've found the Yell.com entry for "G Jones" and an old website, but the numbers I can find are either disconnected or for other people entirely. Does anyone know if Graham(?) still repair amps? If so, would someone mind sending me a private message with contact details for him? Thanks in advance 😀

I’ve emailed and spoken to him several times, I won’t be using him, it’s always ‘drop it in next week but call me first’. And of course, when I call again…. I would prefer ‘yep, drop it in today’ or ‘drop it in Monday morning’. I’m sure he’s a lovely guy and a great tech, and perhaps I’m too impatient, but he’s a short 10-min walk from my house and I’ve not once pinned him down on a drop-off date. If I’m leaving costly tube gear at someone’s place I need to know they’re reliable. I’ll be calling East Street Music tomorrow 👍

I've used G Jones of Whitstable in the past for a couple of Yamaha keyboard repairs and his work has been excellent. If I can find an old invoice with his number I'll PM you.

@spongebob did everything work out OK?

It did and it didn’t!

The cab was absolutely fine, it was my choice of cables that it didn’t like. 👍

Amp was a different story. It was the main board - IIRC - essentially, it would have meant a new one, which was the value of the amp.

I’d bought it used - it died on its first gig. I couldn’t return it……long story. I didn’t have East Street look at until I’d had it for about 8 weeks, so it would have seemed dodgy if I’d then I’d have contacted the seller to say it was dead. So I took the hit. 😫

They were amazing. Didn’t charge me anything….as one bit was fine so no work required, and as for the amp…..they agreed it wasn’t worth touching.

It was a Markbass Little Marcus 800, Martin. I wasn’t put off as I went out and picked up a new (500) one! 🤣

Spoke to Tim at East Street today, I love it when someone sounds keen to do the work despite being busy, and makes everything really simple. Thanks for the recommendation folks :)
