GLASTONBURY 24

If I still lived in the UK and there was enough acts I wanted to see at Glastonbury, I’d pay the daft price and go and get stuck in. It’s not my fave festival in the UK but there’s nothing quite like it.

I can look past all the posh gap year kids and the packs of acid house milfs on the razz, easy, and just crack on cause there’s always interesting stuff going on somewhere there.

(Btw, I have nothing against acid house milfs at all, they’re great. Just not when there’s 50 of them on a hen do completely plastered, waving glowsticks, and covered in glitter. Then I’ll run in the opposite direction because they scare the bejeezus out of me in large numbers 😂 )

I will admit to having gone to the very first Glastonbury Festival, but saw/heard little of what went on, being somewhat otherwise occupied with my partner at the time, building and enjoying a hay-bale lodging by the Tor for the duration. Not much sleep was had. Happy daze; where is she now..? B|

That’s funny. My mum has a story exactly the same as that.

Dad, is that you?

Well Glastonbury 24 has started. Currently enjoying Paul Heaton, with Norman Cook guesting on bass for Happy Hour.

I haven't a clue who is playing (and deep in my heart, I really don't care), but decided to have a look at the bill.

Christ on a bike.  There appears to be hundreds, nay thousands, of artists playing.  How on earth does one sort the wheat from the chaff?  How does everyone get paid?  I recognised maybe ten bands and gave up scrolling.

My idea of Hell to be honest.

Yep, same here. My festival days are well and truly over.

I think my last big one was V in Chelmsford, so some time ago.

I just cannot be ar$ed doing battle to get a halfway decent view and then giving it up to go for a two mile trek for a p!$$.

Another 80s visitor when it was around £20 and before the music was really that much of a thing. I wouldn't really want to go back to it now, but I am sure those people visiting this week will have a great time and it will be their festival to look back on. And at least it cooled down from tuesday!

I shall just grump about local traffic.

I never used to go to the bigger  festivals as a punter, they cost a fortune, the crowds are full of k-nobs who aren’t really there for the music and are either on the lash or coked up on cheap gack, and if the weather takes a turn it can be pretty chaotic. Plus you’re always miles away from the artists you want to see. I only went to a couple of festivals as a teenager and quickly decided they weren’t for me. Also I hate, and by that I mean truly despise, camping.

Playing them is different though, you can drive in, get your passes, have a swifty, do your set, and get back in the van or bus and get straight back out again.

Full marks to anyone who can pony up £300+ for a weekend and enjoy the chaos though. I bow down! 🙌 I hope anyone who’s attending Glasto is having an excellent time of it 👍

I purchased the triple Glastonbury Fayre LP in the very early '80s, being a massive Hawkwind fan at the time . It has the Pink Fairies who I was familiar with due to my brother having the Sweeties album . It wasn't cheap , as it as 'Rare ' 🙀

It had Marc Bolan and David Bowie tracks on there , and a whole side of Gong who were too much for me at the time .Edgar Broughtin was okay from what I remember .

I sold it many years later , as I was never into festivals anyway , nor was I ever a hippy 😬 .

** I was way too young for that original gig , by about 15 years **

Was that the one where Traffic played as well? I’d have paid to get into that for them and Gong alone ❤️ All the rest would have been a bonus to say the least!

I'd put a reserve on The Edgar Broughton Band, if I were you. They were omnipresent 'back then'; one wonders why. Happy, heady daze, but best without them, for my money. :friends:
