stevieb85 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Alright folks, lookin for you opinions on compressor pedals, im currently using the ashdown one, but not sure if im totally happy with it as the low e still tends to cut a million times more than anything else. im running it through an ampeg b2re so could have my arms twisted to go for a rack model, however for price, a pedal would be what i would go for first. johnnylager Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) Some good info on compressors here & here. My vote goes for the EBS MultiComp, but it would do - I bought one and never turn it off. Edited May 7, 2009 by johnnylager Quote

Lovely - it pulls up my troughs and squashes my peaks subtly and cleanly - exactly like a decent compressor should. Quote
EBS_freak Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Multicomp. It's the business. Try one out... you'll see why. Quote

Boneless Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 +1 on the BBE Optostomp. Cheap and cheerful, does its job. Nice. Avoid: - Ashdown Dual Compressor: I am using it now as a backup (I used to own the BBE), and it's noisy and doesn't seem to compress that much. Plus, it's anything but transparent - BOSS CS-3: it just doesn't work on bass. Quote

Sugden Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 (edited) I'd be very intrested to hear if anyone had tried the Monte Allums fitted CS-3 against the Demeter Compulator? Tim how come you got rid of the multicomp how much better was the fitted cs-3? Any perticular quality? I'm looking for a compressor at the moment from some pretty heavy reading the major contenders for the up to £200 price bracket are: Demeter Compulator EBS MultiComp Maxon CP9Pro+ Then racks: dbx 160X Aphex 651 (if you can find one) The ovnilab website seems to agree with alot of reviews on here and also seems to be a very unbiased good selection of reviews. I have one and prefer it to the Multicomp I had beforehand. Thing is, I'm not sure compression is for me at the moment, not sure if I want to keep it... I need to use it some more in a band situation before making my mind up! Quote
silverfoxnik Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 If you can find one, the DBX MC6 is an absolutely brilliant unit but it's neither a footpedal or a rack unit.. Quote
tischbein Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 (edited) add the T-Rex Squeezer to the list... adds a nice valvey touch. Wouldn´t change mine for anything else... Edited May 8, 2009 by tischbein Quote
mcc Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I really like my Presonus Comp16. It adds nothing except for great compression. Only drawback is that it has 16 presets (you only control gain and output)... so if you don't like the set ups you are done. Though I must say I rarely use more than 3 presets. I might point out it is not a bass compressor, it is for studio. It is a third of a rack unit, but I just stand it on my amp. Also sometimes when there is good PA and I can't be bothered to lug my amp around, I just plug the balanced output to the PA and everything works fine. Quote
Basszilla Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 Sug - I just preferred the tone of the modded cs-3. The EBS for me is too transparent and doesn't really do much for long sustained notes. The CS-3 has oodles of sustain and the compression is more pleasing to my ear. I never would of tried one though if it wasn't for my guitarist lending me his. Quote
