petetexas Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 Hi, Anyone found a wall guitar hanger that does not react on contact points with GIBSON basses, and cause the Lacquer to melt? My LP Tribute has now got to go to my local Guitar tech to be repaired. Does not happen with my FENDERS, GUILD or TOKAI ! Pete Quote
Skybone Posted October 5, 2023 Posted October 5, 2023 IIRC, Hercules stands are supposed to not react with nitro-cellulose finishes. 1 Quote
petetexas Posted October 5, 2023 Author Posted October 5, 2023 Thanks Skybone , I will get a couple . Cant remember who the manufacturer is of the ones I have . Quote

Hmm, looks like they give themselves a 'get out of jail' card on that: http://herculesstands.com/international/faq/#:~:text=HERCULES takes great pride in,on the market%2C including Nitrocellulose. Hence the term "supposed to be". I needed a new stand, so took to the t'interweb to find something that was nitro-friendly for the Ric. The only one I could find that was reasonably priced was the Hercules. Quote

The tip I heard from a luthier was to put some silk between the foam and neck. Quote
petetexas Posted October 6, 2023 Author Posted October 6, 2023 Better start cutting up my silk jim jams ( sorry I mean my wifes jim jams ) to get some strips ! ! ! ! ! 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 If you could get a bit of the material the case liner has would work too , I’ve had a few nitro basses hanging on Hercules hangers with no problems Quote
Norris Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Not a Hercules stand, but I bought a multi-guitar hanger a while ago that had a warning about possible reactions with nitrocellulose. I cut up some old jeans and got the sewing machine out to make some mini "jeans legs" to slip over the hanger forks. (I even used orange thread ). It might not be quite as easy on a Hercules auto-grip stand though Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 (edited) Don't believe HerculeIes's BS about being safe for the finish. have a hercules stand with the same grabby head piece they use on their wall hangers. I had one of my JMJ mustangs with roadworn nitro finish, and the grabby bit of the stand reacted with the finish of the neck where it held it. As it is a roadworn bass and I caught it early it's not a massive deal, but I now use use a t-shirt over the stand so it doesn't directly touch the bass. petetexas Posted November 3, 2023 Author Posted November 3, 2023 Recon I have solved it...................... Put a wrap of "REAL" duck tape (3M - not the cheap stuff from ebay ) around the bits in contact with the headstock...............did this two weeks ago , seems to be no reaction . Quote
BabyBlueSound Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 It's like the "which pedal goes in front" question. Some people like toilet dangling from their wall, some people like it wrapped comfortably around the bass neck. Quote
