Kiwi
Ah the Fernandes FAB-170. The selling point of these instruments was how close they got to Alembic inspite of shortfalls in workmanship. It would be slightly collectable if it hadn't been buggered about with. I'll be steering clear of it.
lscolman
Hi, It's actually a FAB-180. The 170 has a rounder body shape. I found some info here http://brochures.yokochou.com/guitar-and-a...1/en_index.html I've dropped him a line, but he no longer has the original pickups. Bit of a shame! Cheers, Lee
Bassassin
Gorgeous old JapCrap Hippie Sandwich, you hardly ever see these - wonder how many of them ended up being fobbed off as genuine? Jon.
MB1
MB1. Fernandes used to make some very good copys!...they had one of these in the Manchester Bass centre before it shut....very close to an Alembic (fernandes were actually threatened with court proceedings)...This is only the second one of these i have ever seen....doubt theyll be many!. I must admit, there are notable differences between the Fernandes and the real thing quality wise, mainly issues such as the fretboard (rosewood as opposed to ebony) etc etc but for what they are, they do exhibit a similar tone to the Alembics (I own a '74 Series 1 LS and a 20th Anniversary model) and from a distance, look great! Bit naughty but there we are.
