Hi guys.

I'm looking for a gig bag for a 34” bass that doesn’t cost silly money.

I'm based in London and PMT and GUITAR GUITAR have such a limited range to go and physically look.

Price range is about £60.

Saw some high rated ones on Amazon for under 60 but I have no reference.

Help would be appreciated

I'd be looking for a TGI Extreme, generally around £50.

I've just bought the guitar version of this for a headless Sei, replacing a Thomann premium gigbag which finally expired after 12 years. For a headless with strap buttons each side of the bridge, the TGI has the upper hand, as the dual strap buttons went either side of the bottom reinforcement on the Thomann but the TGI has wider bottom reinforcement and more padding round the end of the bass. For a single strap button bass, the Thomann has the advantage of a huge amount of storage - Zoom MS-60B, power supply, wireless bugs, capo, and allen keys went in the top compartment, strap, music, and leads went into the bigger lower compartment, and a couple of kazoos went in the smaller lower compartment. If you just want to carry some music (up to A4), a strap, and a lead, the TGI will do it.

yes, Thomann's gig bags are amazingly good value.  I use the 'premium' guitar version for my short scale basses.  The £10 postage bumps the price a bit but there is always the opportunity to buy some extra bits and bobs to spread the cost... :D

cheers for the advice.

I’ll have a look at thomann and see what else the have.

TGI looks solid also.

For £59 I would go for the Fender FB620.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fender-FB620-Bass-Guitar-Gig/dp/B06Y1XXMYG/ref=asc_df_B06Y1XXMYG/

I like the more streamlined/minimal vibe: no huge pockets - my leads/pedals/etc travel in a separate case anyway; hidden handle for vertical carrying; and the shoulder straps can be hidden away too (I never use them).

I prefer its one-piece handle to the two-piece handles sometimes found on other bags which you have to attach together with velcro each time you want to pick the bag up.

Indeed, its a great bag for the money - I had one. And the first thing I look for in a gig bag is a one piece handle....

There seem to be two iterations of the TGI Extreme: one (older?) with the one-piece handle (e.g. https://www.peachguitars.com/tgi-gigbag-bass-guitar-extreme-series-.htm), but most sellers are now selling the two-piece handle version (e.g. https://www.absolutemusic.co.uk/tgi-extreme-series-electric-bass-guitar-gigbag.html).

I think I’ll be going for the TGI. Gak has the cheapest price atm.

I noticed the two versions also. I presume the TGI with the two black straps in the front is the newest version.

This Warwick one is a good single handled bag

This is the bag I had.

I was cycling somewhere with the bag on my back. I cycled through Greenwich tunnel and didn’t realise how low one part of the tunnel was. My headstock got caught and ripped the shoulder straps, causing the bass to fall on the floor. I was amazed my bass was not damaged in the slightest.

I have 2 of these, very capable!   https://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_e_bass_gigbag_premium.htm

Not less than amazing value for the price.

30mm high density industrial padding.

And yes, one handle, and comfortable back straps that can be sipped into hiding.

Big pockets for storing additional equipment too.

Considering a gig bag with around 20mm of padding. Any chance of an explanation / pic of the shoulder straps when folded away on the FB620? Can't find a pic online, do they just slot away into a pocket or something? From what I can see, they unclip at the bottom of the bag, but I'd rather they detach completely than be stuffed into a pocket. I can't imagine I'd ever want to wear a bass on my back, so I'd rather they not be there at all really. I really dislike gig bags where the shoulder straps can't be removed or stuffed out of the way, and so hang down as you walk with the bag, I always worry they'll catch on something if I forget to grab them. Thanks.

Yep exactly.  The bottom of the strap unclips.  Then the top of the strap is permanently attached to the bag, but can be stuffed away inside a pocket which then can be zipped up.

@jrixn1 Many thanks. Any chance of an empty bag weight for this? I realise a decently padded bag will weigh more than a thin, floppy, circa 10mm padding one, but it would be useful to get a weight of this.

The main reason for me wanting a decent alternative to the good old Fender shaped hard case, would be to just shed a little carry weight on load in/out. The shaped cases of the early 2000s are not too bad at around 4Kg (most of the full width hard cases that have passed through have weighed 5-5.5Kg), but still, if I could get a well padded gig bag at say 1.5-2Kg, it would help. Thanks for your help.

My bag has finally almost died with the zips, had it for many years. Does the TGI bag have room for an iPad?

Ideally I want a bag that can hold a bass, an iPad, two wireless adapters, a spare battery, a multitool and an iPad holder (which is actually quite flat.

What sounds best for that?
