Exceptional quality studio / live microphone for double bass.

Can be used in three different positions.

1. Under the neck / finger board.

2. Under the bridge.

3. Under the tail piece.

All three positions have a large effect on the tonal output so experiment with all three.

The microphone requires 48v phantom power to operate.

Can be used in a live situation if there is moderate stage volumes.

£175 UK posted.

The microphone produces the most natural and accurate presentation of the double bass that I have ever heard.

Spyder - was about to press the button on a DPA purchase, when I saw this. Looks a great price, but never seen one in the flesh. A couple of questions:

1. It looks like mounting under the fingerboard means the lead might be in the way. Did you ever use like this - or is it a bridge/tailpiece mount?

2. How tightly does the foam fit? Eg is it better suited to a sitting player? (I tend to stand, and move around a bit. Often I spin the bass to detract from my poor playing...)

3. Does it amplify fingerboard or body percussive hits nicely? (For a bit of Adam Ben Ezra...😉)

4. Have you used live? I understand it copes with "moderate stage volumes" but what does this mean in practical terms? I'm looking at big band, or jump jive set-ups with a reasonably loud drummer...

Thanks

Hi there.

1. I have used it in all three positions and found mounting it under the fingerboard gave the best sound with my bass. Second was under the bridge and last was under the tail. All three positions gave a very accurate representation of the sound from my bass. It also blended very well with other pickups. I found that with a bit of experimentation and patience the best sound position could be found.

2. It us very snug so should be fine for a bit of bass acrobatics. I played in a country band standing up and moved around without any problems.

3. Yes it picks up all sound from the bass.

4. I used it in the country band at rehearsal and live with a moderate drummer with no problems.

Hope this helps.

Marc
