Name that rack gear

This is Mark King's rig on the current L42 tour. The Markbass amp and cab are instantly recognisable, but what's the unit in the rack below the amp? Any ideas? I don't want to rush out and buy one, I'm just curious.

It's a very expensive minidisc player. 

Mark's never been able to replicate the session bassist's tracks that were recorded for the albums live, so he's always mimed to backing tracks on minidiscs. 

The thumb insurance malarkey is the biggest scam ever waiting to happen once his career tails off.

Has anyone tried any of the Caveman Bass Preamps, rack unit or the more compact pedals??

 

I must admit that I am a bit curious about them...
