Jobiebass Posted May 8, 2009 Share Posted May 8, 2009 I use elixrs on all my basses which are super fast, but I cant find anything fast for flats, tried all the roto range of flats, favorate being Roto Jazz. Might sound stupid but my fingers stick to the strings (both hands) and its an effort. What im after is Flats (not round/ground/half) which are slippery as hell. Can you get flats with the elixr kind of coating on them? can you buy stuff that coats strings? or can you recomend some silky smoothe flats please?? I want fat smooth flats for a deep reggae sound on a jazz bass, heavy gauge is best. I don't mind old or used because I prefer them to be played in - I usually change them about every 10 years. I currently use GHS which are very smooth, but I fancy trying TIs, labellas and pyramid golds if anyone has any old ones going cheap. Don't like the sound of the pain with the deep talkers though - what causes that? Don't like rotosound flats because they're not smooth enough. I can't get on with them at all as they are like transatlantic cables to me and about as taut as banjo wires! Guest Posted May 16, 2009 Share Posted May 16, 2009 try a set of ernie ball flats,they have an almost polished surface and after trying lots of flatwounds (including TI's) are my favourites. The jamerson set do feel like solid rods but sound great, the TI's are the at the other end of the scale with a very soft feel, they also can feel sticky untill played in.
