max_overdrive
Just looking for a 0.1uf 100v 104J capacitor for my tone pot. Why do polyesters cost 50-100 times as much as polypropylenes? What do they do better? Edited November 1, 2023 by max_overdrive

stevie
Generally speaking, polypropylene capacitors are higher quality than polyesters, although they do tend to be bigger. There's no reason for polyesters to be more expensive - unless you're buying into the vintage component myth.
paul_5
Polypropylene caps tend to be closer tolerance - so closer to the stated value than polyester caps too, so I'd always opt for those wherever possible.
