cetera Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Just picked up one of these second hand and it has a lovely 4ohm/8ohm switch on the back. Any opinions on getting the most out of this sound/efficiency wise? I will be using it as a single cab (saving my bigger Genz 2x12 for bigger gigs). On quieter/lower volume backline gigs should I use it on 8 ohms and push it as required or notch it to 4ohms? I'll be using one of my heads (not sure which) GK400RB, GK700RB-II, GK Legacy800 (can preset to 8 or 4 ohms) or Tech21 VTBass500.... Quote
gjones Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 (edited) A few years ago I put my GK MB500 through my Hartke HD112 at 4 ohms and I think I pushed it too far and I knackered it. They're only able to take 300 watts and it had a hard time keeping up with a quietish drummer. So my advice is set it at 8 ohms and if it's not loud enough, for the gigs you need it for, get another cab. Edited November 2, 2023 by gjones 1 Quote
Bill Fitzmaurice Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 Put it in whichever position sounds better. If you can't tell the difference set it at 8 ohms, for minimum current draw from the amp. 2 1 Quote
