alembic1989 Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I want to make a ramp. Question... Does placing a bit of wood between the top of the pick ups and the strings, affect the output of the pickups? Thanks. Quote
Thump Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 I've never heard of a ramp that goes on top of the pickups , i thought they went between them so you have a place to anchor your thumb? Quote
Reggaebass Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 The ramp on one of my jazzes goes between the pickups, it doesn’t affect the sound Quote
fretmeister Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 If you did put it on top of the pickups then it would only affect the sound if you had to change the pickup height to do it. Or if you used a ferrous material. Which would be both heavy and silly. Quote

fretmeister Posted November 3, 2023 Posted November 3, 2023 I have thought about putting ramps on top of pickups before. Say on a humbucker that was in the perfect place for my fingers. Even if the pickup had a smooth top and could get close enough to the strings the top would still be flat and the strings would be at different heights relative to the pickup. So a small ramp matching the radius would be great. For exposed pole pickups it could even cover those too. However - my woodworking skills are rubbish and I don't have a 3D printer! 1 Quote
