TheGreek Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 The logo on the headstock looks wrong to me. I don't think it's what they claim it is. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375027480687?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=_IwZTruWS76&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=3arTyUkpQE-&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY 1 Quote

Maybe it was from the period where fender ran out of logos and required a member of staff to paint the fender logo by hand, but this was one of the first ones he did? 1 7 1 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 Probably worth about £20 on a good day with the wind behind it. — then only for someone who needs a sacrificial bass-shaped-object to smash up on stage. Quote
tauzero Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 What would be the purpose of that bit of wood at the neck heel filling in a hole where one might expect to find a truss rod adjuster on some instruments? Quote
NikNik Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Those rounded pup covers look like something seen on '70s Jap copies. Paging @Bassassin 1 Quote
Sumatra Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Great relicing job (on the Fender logo..) Quote
BassApprentice Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Bit of an odd one - on these types of things you normally get next to no photos, here you get a fair few! So anyone bidding doesn't have much excuse for not knowing what they are getting here! Quote
warwickhunt Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Dear me... £142. Someone is getting mugged in plain sight. Quote
Bleat Posted November 6, 2023 Posted November 6, 2023 Obviously the Schaller ( 2+2 !) machine heads are replacements, but you can see the original screw holes for those horrid cheap box shaped things. 1 Quote
Dan Dare Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 God, that's bad. In addition to the bit of wood that's been stuffed in the access hole for the truss rod adjuster, there seems to ne a piece jammed in the channel for the wiring for the neck pickup. The knobs are class, too. No doubt the neck screw plate has been removed because it was stamped "Made in Japan". 38 bids? There really is one born every minute. Quote
Bassassin Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Nasty late 70s Korean-made cheapo, would probably originally have been branded Satellite. Horrible plywood rubbish - I picked one up from Crack Converters for £25 a few years back. In fairness to them they had it up for £50 but happily gave me a 50% discount because one pickup wasn't working. This is still £142 with an hour left to go so fortunately it's not fooling many people. Will be bleakly amusing if it leaps up to £500 in the last 30 seconds. Quote
rwillett Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 I think you're all missing that this might be an ultra rare Fender that's disguised as pile of junk. Who knows what treasures lie underneath that plain and humble facade? Now the cynics amongst you may dismiss this as mere babbling, but look at Antiques Roadshow as evidence that pearls do exist in unlikely corners. This could be a chance to acquire a lost relic of Leo himself. You could be kicking yourself when it turns up at Andy Baxters with a £50k price tag. Or not. 2 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 (edited) Fuggin-ell! It shot up to £232.57 in the dying seconds. Someone's going to be disappointed... Edited November 8, 2023 by Jean-Luc Pickguard Quote

Someone's going to be disappointed... It's back up on the 'Bay at £225. So the "buyer", if there was one, must have pulled out. Have just messaged the seller, enquiring whether it's from the era when Fender employees drew the logo on the headstock with a permanent marker. Will share the response if I receive one. 1 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted November 21, 2023 Posted November 21, 2023 If you get a reply I predict that the seller will feign ignorance. Quote
