AlexDelores
Probably Geddy. But, as he’s already had a few mentions I’ll go with Joe Dart.
meterman
Aston “Family Man” Barrett for me. Not super fast playing, just great tone and grooves that people will still be copying years from now. Vibe for days. Love it 👍
Lozz196
Deon Estus was pretty good on his Wham material, great bass lines and tone.
Leonard Smalls
Favourite jazz bass player? Always liked Jamaaladeen Tacuma for his harmolodic grooves. And loved Melvin Gibbs power in both Avant jazz and rock - I've seen him with Bill Frisell, Sonny Sharrock, Defunct and Rollins Band so proper versatile. Though neither specifically play a jazz . I've seen Jamalaadeen with a Rick, a Kubicki in pink, a Steinberger cricket bat and some weird cross between a Barbie doll and a Les Paul!

MNY
I have already mentioned Marcus Miller as my number 1 but it was a hard choice. For those of you who have never come across a band called Sixun, the guy in the video Michel Alibo is Sixun’s bass player. Originating from Martinique he settled in France and was a founding member of the band . A huge influence on me, but sadly virtually unknown in the UK. Jo Zawinul from Weather Report recruited several members of bands based in France including drummer Paco Sery from Sixun and bassist Etienne Mbappe from Ultramarine, eventually replacing Mbappe with another French based bass player Linley Marthe an absolutely exceptional talent. You might want to check these players out if you’re curious. Here’s Michel playing some frankly ridiculous bass to Sixun’s track Djoudjou. Hope you enjoy it and find some new inspiration. ahpook
Joe Osborn Why ? Just listen to this...possibly the most sublime piece of bass playing I've ever heard. The sound, the phrasing...perfect - the bass yearns and aches, just like the song. Edited November 11, 2023 by ahpook

Undoubtedly one of the most underrated bass players on the planet, and one of the best. I saw him a few years ago with The Sunburst Band and he was sensational. All the stuff he performed with Incognito is also a must listen, the best of all their bass players IMHO.
