Vin Venal Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 As per the title, what flats would experienced flats players recommend for a P-bass for a player who uses a decent amount of gain for a rock/punk/alternative type sound? I know flats aren't the go to for this type of sound, but I like the feel of flats and the idea of not having to change strings all the time, so I'm interested in giving them a try. Recommendations would be appreciated. Quote
Supernaut Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Dunlop flats would be my recommendation. Big fan. Quote
police squad Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 I've only used Fender flats and they've been wonderful 1 Quote
Geek99 Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Works for Steve harris I just use cheap adagio off eBay 1 Quote
Paul S Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 I play in a blues/rock band - lots of Hendrix/Cream/ZZ Top etc - and TI Flats work for me. EQ is set with a clean boost and a little push from the gain. They have more bite than any other flats I have tried. They are low tension, which is a deal breaker for many, but I prefer that feel. They are also very expensive but once fitted last forever. 2 Quote

Lozz196 Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Def look at the brighter versions as mentioned above Rotosound 77, Fender, Dunlop, EB Cobalts, TIs, worth adding in D’Addario Chromes to the list. Quote

fretmeister Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Dunlops or EB Group flats for me. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Ernie ball cobalt flats no contest. I have a non-reverse thunderbird incoming and I have a set of the lightest ones, 40-95 ready for when it arrives. The ones on my vintage pro thunderbirds are several years old and still haven't died. Vin Venal Posted November 17, 2023 Author Posted November 17, 2023 Thanks for the suggestions all. Think I'm gonna check out a set of the cobalt flats. 1 Quote
Rodders Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 Had great success with GHS and La Bella playing Classic Rock on a P bass, all down to how you EQ them in my experience. Quote
